Tamarack (Larix laricina)

Tamarack is a unique tree that is both coniferous and deciduous. That means it looks very much like other evergreens (pines, spruce, etc.) but drops its foliage in the fall. Most commonly found in moist soils, this tree has also found use in the landscape. Fall color is a brilliant orange/yellow. Needles are short (~1″ long) and found in clusters of more than 5. Cones are only about an inch long and nearly round.
